Communication Networks for LED Signs

Monochrome Control System
Signs Plus' Monochrome Control System is the basic text messaging controller for Electronic Message Centers. With one color monochrome color, the Monochrome Controller provides all of the basic text messaging features needed for most EMCs. This low cost, low-bandwidth control system features an embedded processor and onboard memory which resides inside of the sign cabinet. The embedded configuration allows the sign to operate without a permanent connection to a computer. Communication to the sign is via a standard RS 232 connection (RS 485 or wireless options available). Animations and schedules are created in WinEDT and WinEDL software and are transmitted to the sign where they reside in the onboard memory. If the sign is turned off or power is interrupted, the sign will play back the last good animation schedule that was transmitted. The easy-to-use animation software includes many pre-loaded text transitions and animations, allowing beginners to make exciting moving messages with professional results. The Monochrome Control system is the most popular option for Electronic Message Centers.

Communications Options

monochrome communications system

RS-232

Standard hard-wired communication to low-bandwidth displays. Less than 50 feet between display and PC.

RS-485

Hard-wired communication to low-bandwidth displays or display networks. Between 50 and 400 feet between display and PC.

RF

Wireless radio frequency communication to low bandwidth displays. Requires clear line of site between wireless devices.

Modem

Long distance or remote communication to low-bandwidth displays over telephone lines.

Fiber Optic

Hard-wired multi-mode or single-mode fiber optic cable for low-bandwidth displays over great distances or where high EMF interference is encountered.

Ethernet

Ethernet communication to low-bandwidth signs on a LAN or WAN network.

256 Shaded Control System
Signs Plus' 256 Shaded Control System provides high-resolution graphic capabilities to a monochrome LED display. Not only does this system provide basic text messaging, it can also produce and display high-resolution graphic animations. Featuring 256 shades of monochrome color (red or amber), this system provides imaging with an effect similar to a black and white television set (also known as grayscale). The control system will operate medium to very large matrix displays with unlimited maximum matrix possibilities. User friendly software, which is installed on the user's PC, allows the user to import and/or create animations and text messages, and features pre-programmed transitions for a professional results. Communication to the sign is via Ethernet, fiber optic cable, wireless Ethernet, or broadband internet, whereby animations are transmitted to the control panel which is installed at the base of the sign. The 256 Shaded System is a very cost-effective solution that delivers both text messaging and high-resolution graphics.

RGB 16.7M Control System
Signs Plus' RGB 16.7M Control System is the most powerful RGB controller, featuring 16.7 million RGB colors and unlimited maximum matrix possibilities. The 16.7M Control System is required for any full-color RGB display larger than 48 by 160, or where advanced features such as Real Time Video Input are required. While this system offers all of the standard color EMC text messaging features, the RGB 16.7 surpasses the standard color depth and physical dimension possibilities, providing astonishing high-resolution images for large format displays and spectaculars. User friendly software provides the standard text editing and content creation, and together with the new optional Real Time Video Input, also allows the addition of NTSC, S-Video, and SDI video inputs (Discuss this option with your Product Manager). Communication between the User PC to the Remote Hardware Control Panel is via Ethernet, Fiber Optic Cable, Wireless Ethernet or Broadband DSL. The 16.7M RGB Control System provides a feature-rich solution for any large-format, outdoor, full-color LED screen.
